Licensing Committee


The Committee has responsibility for all matters relating to the licensing of taxi and private hire vehicles/drivers/operators in the Borough, as well as for licensed premises within the statutory provisions of the Licensing Act 2003 and the Gambling Act 2005.

The Committee undertake the licensing functions of the Council including health and safety at work/fire safety, Health Act 2006 and Elections.  A full list of the functions can be found in the Council’s Constitution.

The Committee consists of 10 Members and is politically balanced. The Committee generally meet in public.

In connection with the consideration and determination of applications or concerning complaints against individual licence-holders under the provisions of the Licensing Act 2003 the Committee has delegated its powers for hearings to be dealt with by the Council's Licensing Sub-Committee.
