General Purposes


The Board has responsibility for all matters relating to licensing and registration. This includes the licensing of hackney carriage/private hire vehicles and drivers and market and street trading. It also has powers to register food business premises and to make Orders to create/extinguish/divert public footpaths. The Board also has responsibility for elections and electoral registration as well as consultative powers on functions relating to name and status of the Borough area and the making of byelaws.The Board consists of 12 Members, politically balanced. The meetings of the Board are held in public, although items concerning complaints against individual licence-holders are usually heard in private session.At the meeting of Annual Council held on 24th May 2007 the functions of the General Purposes Board were merged into the Council's Licensing Committee.
