Took part in attacks on the German battleship Tirpitz, notably Operation Tungsten on 3 Apr 1944, his death occurred on 18 July, when he was reported missing as a result of air operations off the Norwegian coast.

The operation which resulted in his loss on 18/7/44 was an anti-submarine patrol executed in bad weather. His aircraft was unable to recover to his ship and he and his two fellow crew were presumed lost at sea. No trace of his aircraft has ever been found
